Where's the Duck??

Hey there! Well, today was our first day of teaching, but it didn't go quite as we planned it. We woke up at 7:27 (cuz jordan insists on waking up at times that are not divisible by 5...), had breakfast, and headed out to the Grupo CEO building to have our first lesson with the Pre-teens. We set up the music, opened the doors, and waited, and waited, and waited. Apparently most of the pre-teens have school in the mornings, so nobody came. But we talked with them later today and decided we're gonna meet in the afternoon until school is out so tomorrow will be our first day actually teaching the pre-teens!
After none of the pre-teens showed up, we went back to the house and spent a good 2 hours at least studying the Bible, planning lessons, and preparing to teach. It was legit. When our brains couldn't take it anymore, we decided to take a break and went outside with the guitar and had some worship time. Douglas (our missionary hosts' son) played us a song he'd been learning on the guitar and we had some good bonding time.
After we ate lunch, we had some time to kill so we decided to continue a game we have going in which one member of Deavijord hides a small, plush duck somewhere in the house for the other two to find. One round in particular gave us some extra trouble and David had everyone in the house (including the housekeeper, Sula) looking for the thing for like half an hour! Deanna finally found it and the game is still going whenever we have free time.
Once 4:30 rolled around, it was time for playground time and boy do those kids love to play tag!! Needless to say, we wore ourselves out after playing in the sand for an hour. We had a debriefing time with Bill and Erika and talked about how our day went and how the week was gonna go. At 7 we had our first teaching time with the teens! We started off with an illustration where one person was given a bunch of bags of Skittles and didnt share them with anyone. It symbolized all of the investments people have made into they're lives and all the knowledge they have of the Bible, yet they dont go share it with others! We talked for about 2 hours about the importance of being faithful with what people have taught and invested into our lives (I Corinthians 4:1-2). Bill and Erika told them that people are recognized by their fruit, and that, judging by the teens lack of fruit these past few years, they are not growing and not being faithful with what God has given them. It was a long meeting we got a little stern with them, but we believe God's Word is going to work in their hearts. Our next meeting with them will be on Thursday. Please keep on praying!
We came home after the meeting and ate dinner with Pastor Eudes and his family. David showed off some of his Portuguese skills which everybody got a kick out of. All in all, it was a very productive day and we are so blessed to be serving here in Maracanau!!!
Tomorrow morning we're gonna try the pre-teen meeting again and see if anyone shows up. haha. Keep us in your prayers! Gloria a Deus!!!!!
